A prestigious retrospective of hundreds of works by Frédéric Back will be presented at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art next summer, before travelling to Beijing and France. Another show will feature works by Frédéric on the Laurentians and the Rivière Rouge. But remember, mum’s the word!

Kids’ Zone: A new section just for kids!

Given a voice by Holly Gauthier-Frankle, Frédéric’s little dog Mali tells a fascinating tale: that of her master’s life, told through seven episodes and lots of pictures. You’ll also find two new online activities: Learning About First Peoples, and Learning About Transportation. Last but not least, don’t forget you can post your creations online in the Share your drawings section of the Gallery.

In this section, explore the Aboriginal cultures that so fascinated Frédéric upon his arrival in Canada in 1948, the Alsace of Frédéric’s childhood, Brittany during the war, colourful Mexico, and post-war Europe. Through travel diaries, sketches, gouaches and book proposals, discover the architecture, lifestyles, traditional dress, agriculture, trades and crafts of a world that has since vanished, swept away by post-war mechanization and industrialization.
